Day 2
We started out our morning early, not by choice, but by forgetting to change time zones. Although, the early hours gave us the opportunity to go on a hike and see a rainbow between the volcanoes! After breakfast, we got into the chocolate making tour, tasting all different types of chocolate. It included roasted cacao beans, mantizumo (a chocolate water drink), and various forms of dark chocolate with sea salt, chili, and pepper. For lunch, we got to watch them cut up a palm heart with a machete for us to eat. Afterwards, we went to the village to help Margarita, a nice woman, plant plants for her butterfly garden that she will be opening. After that, we went to get ice cream from a lady. It only cost 50 cents. Before dinner, we took time to relax on the porch with the dogs that stay on the farm, we call them Doctor and Pepito, even though those are not their real names. For all meals, the food has been amazing and we're all all overeating, but that's not an issue because of all the hiking. After dinner, we had our first ant learning session, which consisted of videos and finding our groups. We are ready to go into the ant hill tomorrow! Everything has been beyond our expectations so far and we are having a blast!!!
Below are pictures of Doctor and the rainbow.
