Day 1

After landing in Costa Rica, we took an actual 5 hour long van ride that fit all of us. During these 5 hours, we ate mangos fresh from a tree that our bus driver stood on barbed wire to get. We also took pictures of some active volcanoes nearby and counted cows (over 200). When we finally arrived, we got assigned our dorms. From the outside they looked a bit on the shady side, but once we walked in, it was like a full blown resort with updated bathrooms. Since getting into the dorms, girls have been having issues with bugs (including a wasp, 2 cockroaches, and a bunch of ants), but we have Jessica as a designated bug killer and Emma G as the bug cleaner.

For our first walk in the rain forest, it was fun to see the biodiversity of plants and the river. However, we are still learning to walk on the steep, slippery paths and not slipping on wood bridge (Jessica). For dinner they served us fried bass and various vegetables with starfruit juice and we had some great dessert with homemade caramel and fresh cacao.

We are looking forward to tomorrow, a day of learning about how to make chocolate!
